My Story
I am a Canadian and Australian woman with Ukrainian roots who was born in Surrey, Canada. I am the oldest child of my family and have both a sister and brother. They were both goofballs that drove me crazy, but I love them. Still do; they are my friends nowadays, though to me they will always be my baby siblings. My first sixteen years I was raised as a Christian and attended Catholic school from elementary to high school. Despite being raised Christian, I now identify as Agnostic and am proud to say that.
My love for writing started around grade 10 of high school, where I wrote various stupid short stories with my friends and also a superhero mini novel. It was pretty bad, grammar and logic wise, but for a first shot. It was amazing. This event sparked my absolute love for writing and encouraged me to take a creative writing 11 course the following year. Which I did.
My grade 11 year was a challenge. I struggled with a multitude of mental health issues and made an attempt. This story of my growth is a part of who I am today. The strong, powerful woman I am now is here thanks to my family and all hospital workers. I was placed in a psychiatric ward in Surrey Memorial Hospital, where I learned different techniques to overcome my issues. While there, I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and various anxiety disorders. Time is said to heal old wounds, and by my graduation from high school, I was fully strong and able to tell my survival story. I am proud of myself for making it day by day. And I am proud of all of you too. Sharing mental health journeys can be daunting, but considering my mental health has made me who I have become, it is important to mention. Even more so than where I was born.
Now I am thriving, writing, living, and enjoying every bit of life that comes my way with an ice cap and book in hand. Take life by the reins and make it your own.
